Tait's Reputation Among Patients

Post by Karen on Tue 22 Jun 2010 - 6:48

I found this little mention of Lawson Tait rather interesting:

Lawson Tait, one of the greatest surgeons, who made a specialty of unsexing women (ovariotomy) had such a name at some of the English hospitals that patients would hurry home, sacrificing their payments, when they found that it was his day to attend. Take the recent craze of surgery for appendicitis, a doctor in the States became aware of its needlessness and handled 326 cases without operation, losing only two cases.
