A Woman Nearly Frightened To Death

Post by Karen on Sun 25 Apr 2010 - 10:27

One writes from London:

A young lady who lives with her parents, visited a few weeks ago a friend in the Dover Strait. On her way home she noticed a man who followed her on foot. She got into a cab and ordered her coachman to drive her home. When they had arrived at the place of her destination, another coach drove up, the same man jumped out, ran to the girl and whispered in her ear: This is the first warning, I'm Jack the Ripper. The mortally terrified girl had only the force of the door knocker in motion, and fainted. Her father immediately notified the police of the incident, and on his advice a silent agent accompanied her when she went out, but the mysterious stranger did not appear again. She had almost forgotten what happened when she was summoned recently to a ball. She hung her winter coat in the hallway. After the ball she wanted to pick up this garment again when it came to her dismay there was a note on it with a needle attached which stated the following: This is the last warning. I'm Jack the Ripper. The young lady withdrew because of this so that they had to take her to a mental institution. So far, the instigator of this low structure has not been detected.
