Just Like The Deeming Case

Post by Karen on Mon 29 Mar 2010 - 22:51

Two Wives of a Hollander Mysteriously Disappear.

AMSTERDAM, Sept. 21. - The police of this city have just made an arrest which promises to cause a sensation similar to that caused by the Deeming murders. It appears that in June last a Hollander named Henry De Jong married a young English girl known as Sarah Jewitt. Mr. and Mrs. De Jong spent their honeymoon in Holland, but the girl soon after her arrival in this country disappeared. Nothing was thought of her disappearance at the time, as it was believed that she had simply become dissatisfied with the mode of life in Holland and ran away from her husband with the intention of returning to England. De Jong was currently believed to have obtained a divorce from his English wife, as in August last he married the sister of an innkeeper in this city. De Jong's second wife also disappeared, and then people began to grow suspicious that all was not right. The police made an investigation. Facts were discovered that prompted them to correspond with the English police, and from information received from England it is believed that the English woman had been foully dealt with. De Jong has been arrested, and the police are engaged in searching for the bodies of the two women he is supposed to have murdered in this city. On the other hand, the English police are searching for the bodies of further victims in England.
