Life Of Cutbush

Post by Karen on Fri 26 Mar 2010 - 18:50

In 1894, The Sun newspaper reported that Jack the Ripper might have been a young man named Thomas Haynes Cutbush. Cutbush was caught stabbing women in the buttocks during broad daylight and he was later determined to be insane. In the account of his life, it was claimed that his father, Thomas Taylor Cutbush, died when he was very young, but that is not at all true. His father up and left the family and entered into a bigamous marriage in New Zealand. Here are a few newspaper accounts of this. This makes me wonder just how little the Editor of The Sun really knew about Thomas Haynes Cutbush.

Here is a genealogical site devoted to the Cutbush family:

Here is the record of the marriage between Thomas Taylor Cutbush and Agnes Ingles Stoddart on December 10, 1867 in Dixon Street, Wellington, New Zealand:

Sadly enough, Thomas T. Cutbush also had a stillborn daughter born to him by his wife, Agnes Ingles Stoddart, in 1868 just a year after they were married. They had named the stillborn baby Helen Stoddart Cutbush.
