Pearson's Status (Another Reiteration)

Post by Karen on Wed 18 May 2011 - 9:38

Due to certain erroneous claims and comments surfacing from unknowns in the Ripper community (enter bird name here...), I, yet again, feel the need to reaffirm Dr. Pearson's status as a Surgeon. He was an army surgeon, police surgeon, post office surgeon, surgeon with his own practice, surgeon with a shared practice (with second cousin), surgeon to the Orders of Oddfellows, Foresters and Free Gardeners (these are Masonic-like orders who meet in Lodges and have the same designations or degrees, for instance, Past Grand Master, Past Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Tyler.)

And in response to another's comment: Dr. Pearson only referred one patient to Dr. Lawson Tait and not every one of his patients. It seems that Pearson was quite the surgeon-in-demand himself - as evidenced by his employment by the Earl of Dudley, the Staffordshire Rifle Corps and the Orders/Societies mentioned above.)

Positions Held:

* Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator of the Kingswinford No.3 District of the Stourbridge Union 1884-1920
* Surgeon to the Oddfellows, Foresters, and Free Gardeners
* Private medical practice at Townsend House
* Surgeon to Police
* Surgeon to Post Office
* Medical Referee to the Prudent (Prudential), People's Farm (Family) and Wesl (Wesleyan) Assurance Societies
* Surgeon to the 1st Staffordshire Volunteer Rifle Corps
* Surgeon to the Earl of Dudley's, Himley and Old Park Collieries
* Surgeon to the New York Assurance Society
* Member of the British Medical Association and the Midland Medical Society

Here is Alfred William Pearson's appearance dates with his solicitors for his liquidation claim:

This shows that Pearson's case was under the heading of "Liquidations," and not personal bankruptcy. A liquidation denotes a business related claim:
