Mary's Brother "Johnto"

Post by Karen on Sat 4 Apr 2015 - 22:56

For many years, I have tried to find Mary's brother, Henry (nicknamed "Johnto") and after searching at the National Library of Wales, I found this article about the death of a fisherman. This gives credence to my theory of a Welsh woman having been murdered in Miller's Court, not an Irish woman. This is the only reference to a "Johnto" that I have ever seen.

FISHERMAN'S FALL OVER THE CLIFF.

John Broker, better known as "Johnto," was in Victoria Road on Friday evening in a drunken state. He wanted to go into the dock gates, but P.C. Carr, who was on duty there, refused him, as he knew he had
no ship at the time. "Johnto" walked away up Victoria Road, and, when opposite the chemist's shop, he climbed over the fence, probably with a maudlin intention of getting into the docks that way. He slipped, however,
falling a sheer 30 feet or so, had his fall broken by a jutting piece of land, and rolled down the remainder of the cliff, which is some 90 or 100 feet high. He was unconscious when picked up, and when examined by Dr. Nichol, after
being removed to the Seamen's Mission, appeared to have sustained some internal injuries.
