John Alexander Fitzmaurice

"JACK THE RIPPER."
A Cardiffian says he is the Terror.

On Saturday, at Wicklow, a man of respectable appearance was remanded for inquiries. He gives his name as John Alexander Fitzmaurice, a native of Cardiff, and gave himself up
to the police, declaring he was the real "Jack the Ripper," and naming the murders he had committed in London and elsewhere. The statements were taken down, and signed by the self-
accused murderer. He afterwards retracted, but admitted having committed one murder - that of Mary Jane Wheeler, in 1886. Fitzmaurice, from his manner, appears to be a man of some
education.
The man Fitzmaurice, of Cardiff, in custody at Wicklow, self-accused of murder, has been released, the report from the Cardiff police going to show that the man's story was concocted.
