Poisoning Death of David Pearson

Post by Karen on Sun 9 Mar 2014 - 18:34

The following article states that a David Pearson was exhumed from his grave in Wordsley, which coincidentally enough, is where Dr. Alfred William Pearson is buried also.

POISONING MYSTERY.
THE BODY OF A TIPTON MAN EXHUMED.

By order of the Home Secretary, the body of David Pearson, of Tipton, Staffordshire, who was connected with a well-known family in the Dudley district, was on Monday exhumed in Wordsley churchyard. It is stated that after drinking some beer in a public-house in the Tipton district Pearson was
found in a most distressing condition, and died after being removed to Dudley Workhouse infirmary. A coroner's inquest was held on the 24th ult., and a verdict was returned that death was due to natural causes, accelerated by alcoholic poisoning and exposure.
The interment was fixed for next day, but because of information received by relatives the burial was postponed for two days, and three men were charged with administering a noxious drug to Pearson, it being alleged that they put considerable quantities of it in his beer. Later the charge preferred was one
of manslaughter, and it became necessary for the body to be exhumed, in order to furnish evidence to support the prosecution.
