nlw wrote:Hello all. I do see this is an old post. I wanted to explain the Cross-Lechmere confusion. There is a documentary on JTR that states there was no Charles Cross at the address given at the inquest. The address was however supposedly home to Charles Lechmere. According to the documentary he was linked geographically. He passed the first three murders on his way to work. Apparently the remaining murders happened on his day off. He was supposedly visiting his mother and daughter.

Apparently I can't post the link so if you search for Jack The Ripper on Youtube and click the second one down. The picture should be of a mother and toddler

So, 22 Doveton Street was the home of Charles Lechmere? Really? Would you please show us this entry from the Find My Past website? I get 0 results on that address and name! You're busted buddy!

An Inconvenient Truth

Post by Karen on Thu 10 Dec 2015 - 22:11

I found Charles A Lechmere living at Doveton Street in the 1891 Census, but there are a few problems with this:

1.) How do we know for sure that he was living on Doveton Street 3 years earlier (in 1888)?
2.) This Lechmere is not living in Bethnal Green, which is stated on Casebook. Doveton Street is in Mile End Old Town. The research at Casebook: Jack the Ripper is flawed.
3.) Since I don't feel like paying to view the image, I am not even certain that it is 22 Doveton Street, since I already entered that in the search parameters and reached 0 results. It may just be listed as Doveton Street, without a number. So what is the actual number of Lechmere's house?
4.) The most important point of all is that his name is not Charles Cross!

Lechmere Charles A 1850 1891 1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Mile End Old Town, London, England
