Post by Karen on Sat 14 Sep 2013 - 2:24

At the Newport police-court, on Wednesday Felix McCarthy, a well-known corner-man, was charged with stealing a boot, the property of Ann Lanning. Prosecutrix, who is one of the best known characters of the town, stated that she was going up Cross-street, when prisoner snatched the boot from under her arm, and when she demanded its return he threatened to treat her like "Jack the Ripper" had served the unfortunates at Whitechapel. - Prisoner now stated that the woman gave him the boots to pawn for her, but the magistrates sent him to prison for a month.
