Edmund Joseph Bellord

Post by Karen on Tue 2 Mar 2010 - 9:06

I found this tiny snippet while perusing the Google Book Search website. Find below some information on Solicitor Edmund J. Bellord, who, it is claimed, assisted Mary Jane Kelly (O'Brien) to obtain a position as a nanny in Cleveland Street. The most interesting piece of information is that Bellord was the Trustee of the Providence Row Night Refuge, where Mary Jane Kelly (O'Brien) probably stayed on the night of November 8, 1888, actually giving some credence to the belief that she was not the woman found murdered in Miller's Court on the morning of November 9.

Bellord, EDMUND J., Solicitor, and Trustee of the Providence Row Night Refuge - born 1860, youngest son of James Bellord, of Highgate, and brother of the late Bishop Bellord; educated at St. Augustine's, Ramsgate; married (1886) HELEN TERESA, daughter of George B. SMITH, of Oxford.

In the 1881 Census the Bellord family is living at 35, Barnsbury Street, Islington, Middlesex.
