Constable John Patrick

Post by Karen on Sat 21 Jul 2012 - 11:20

Constable John Patrick is mentioned on page 128 in "Jack the Ripper: An Encyclopedia."

Edward Smith, James Johnson, and William Donelly were charged at the Thames Court today with disorderly conduct, and with assaulting Police-constable John Patrick and Sergeant Holland. - On Tuesday evening Constable Patrick was on duty in Upper East Smithfield, when he saw Johnson and Smith fighting, and on going to separate them Johnson struck him in the ribs, knocking him against the dock gates, and Smith kicked him on the ankle, felling him to the ground. Sergeant Holland came to his assistance, when Donelly struck him a heavy blow on the jaw, and knocked him down. - Mr. Saunders sentenced Smith and Johnson to three months' hard labour, and Donelly to four months' hard labour.
