Unknown Man in the Mortuary

Post by Karen on Thu 28 Jul 2011 - 23:28

Yesterday the authorities of the Whitechapel infirmary forwarded information to Mr. Wynne E. Baxter that the body of a man unknown had been placed in the mortuary to await an inquest. It appears that yesterday morning, at 1:30, Police-constable 58 K was on duty in Upper Earl-street, when he came across a man lying on the pavement. At first it was thought he was drunk, but on lifting him up it was found that he was conscious. He was at once conveyed to the infirmary, and every effort was made to restore him, but without effect, as death ensued three hours later. The police, up to last evening, were unable to trace the identity, or to solve how he came to be lying unconscious on the pavement.
