Drowned From a Barge

Post by Karen on Tue 26 Jul 2011 - 2:02

YESTERDAY'S INQUESTS.

DROWNED FROM A BARGE.

Yesterday Mr. George Collier held an inquest at the Town hall, Shoreditch, on the body of John Henry Bail, aged six years, the son of an ivory turner, of 11, Duncan-road, Hackney. The boy left home in perfect health on Tuesday, and two hours later Agnes Popkins saw him get into a barge on the Regent's canal, opposite her home in Talavera-terrace, Haggerstone, and shortly after he disappeared. She raised an alarm, and a neighbour named Whitmore ran to the Cat and Mutton-bridge, and got the drags, but when the body was recovered in 20 minutes life was extinct. Verdict, "Accidental suffocation by drowning."
