Death of a Wesleyan Minister

Post by Karen on Mon 18 Jul 2011 - 21:52

Yesterday afternoon Mr. George Collier held an enquiry at the London hospital, with respect to the death of Mr. Joseph Jenkins, as Wesleyan minister, of 35, Belgrave-street, Stepney. The unfortunate gentleman was a retired minister of the United Methodist Free Church, but occasionally preached, and on Wednesday evening left home for that purpose, which was the last time his son saw him alive. At half-past 7 on the same evening he was found by a man named Stephens, bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth, close to Stepney station. No delay occurred in getting him into a cab, and conveying him to Dr. Richardon's surgery close by, and that gentleman concluded that he was dead, but at his advice his attendant conveyed him to the London hospital, when all doubt was at once set at rest by Dr. English, the house surgeon. Death was due to cardiac failure of the heart's action, the result of long continued consumption, from which he had suffered for seven years. A verdict was returned accordingly.
