Residents of Cleveland Street

Post by Karen on Thu 23 Jun 2011 - 6:48

On pages 2-3 of Melvyn Fairclough's book, "The Ripper and the Royals", it states:

"Sickert's studio was at the southern end of Cleveland Street. It was here, at No. 15, while he was visiting Walter Sickert in his studio, that Prince Albert Victor was introduced to Annie Elizabeth Crook. Across the road was a tobacconist and confectionery shop at No. 22. It was here that Annie Elizabeth Crook was employed when she first met Albert Victor. Annie lived a few doors away down the street, in the basement of No. 6."

Having consulted the 1881 Census, I have found the following residents residing in the three households mentioned above.

Residents of No. 6 Cleveland Street in 1881 (where Annie lived in the basement). There is no Annie Crook living there in 1881, but there is an Annie Horn.
