Charged With Aiding and Abetting

Post by Karen on Sat 21 May 2011 - 23:37

Arthur William Tanner was charged, at Gloucester, on Wednesday, with making a false declaration at Stroud, regarding a marriage notice, knowing the same to be false; and Elizabeth Tanner was charged with aiding and abetting. The offence was that the male prisoner, at the time of his contemplated marriage with the daughter of the female prisoner, stated that he was 22 years of age, whereas it was contended that he was only 20. The prosecution was instituted by the male prisoner's father, who proved his son's age, and alleged that he believed that he had been decoyed away from his home to that of the girl's parents. The female prisoner is a sister to the prosecutor. The jury found the male prisoner "Guilty." He was ordered to come up for judgment when called upon, the female being discharged.
