Mrs. Paumier, the Nut-Seller

Post by Karen on Wed 11 May 2011 - 3:46

Mixed Messages.

The New Killings in Whitechapel.

A young woman who sells nuts at the corner of Wide Gate Street, told a reporter yesterday that she had seen the murderer. A neatly dressed man asked her: "Have you heard of the
murder in Dorset Street?" She replied that she knew of it.
The man grinned and said, "I know more about it than you." He looked her straight in the face and then went into Sandys-row, a street that intersects Wide Gate Street. When he was a little distance away, he looked back to see if she followed him, then he disappeared.
The nut-seller describes him as follows: "It was a man of about 1.70 M. in length, he had a black mustache, wore a black silk hat, black coat and striped trousers, he also had a black bag with him."
They also related how that same man on Thursday night accosted three girls she knows, and when they asked him what he had in that bag, he replied: "Something women do not like! "
