Questions About the Ripper Answered

Post by Karen on Tue 29 Mar 2011 - 11:33

Mr. P. CLEGG, of Tollington Court, N.4, writes: -

I have asked many people these questions, and the answers have been so varied that I think many people would be glad if you would print this.
(1) Who was Jack the Ripper?
(2) In what year did he operate?
(3) Was he ever caught?
(4) Was he caught by a medium?
(5) How many murders did he commit?
(6) Was he a doctor?

ANSWER: Jack the Ripper was the name given to an uncaptured criminal who murdered eight women in the East End of London between Christmas, 1887, and July, 1889.
Sir Robert Anderson has left it on record that he was a maniac known to the police.
There's a story that a clairvoyant helped the police trace a man to the home of a celebrated doctor, and that Jack the Ripper was caught there and was removed to a private lunatic asylum.
There are many similar theories which, at the best, are only conjectures.
