Sickert's Re-Marriage in 1926

Post by Karen on Sat 26 Mar 2011 - 15:47

ARTIST'S ROMANCE.

Mr. Walter Sickert Married at Age of Sixty-six.

PUPIL OF WHISTLER.

The marriage was announced yesterday - the ceremony having taken place on June 4 - of Mr. Walter Richard Sickert, A.R.A., to Miss Therese Lessore, a daughter of the late Jules Lessore, R.I., and sister of Mr. Frederick Lessore, the sculptor.
Mr. Sickert, who will be sixty-seven next year, was at one time a pupil of Whistler, Manet and Degas, and was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1924.
He was one of the pioneers of Impressionism.
For many years he lived abroad, but on his return to London his influence was immediately reasserted.
He has three pictures in the Tate Gallery, one in the Luxembourg, and several in the art galleries of Manchester and Johannesburg.
He is a member of the Societe du Salon d'Automne, the Society of Twelve, the Allied Artists' Association and the International Society.
For many years he lived and worked in the East End of London.
Mr. Sickert's bride belongs to a family of artists, and her brother, who has studied in London and Paris, has modelled busts of the Duke of Connaught, the Marquis of Reading, Lord Mount Stephen and Lord Strathcona.
Mr. Sickert's first wife died in 1920.
