"Jolly Jack Tar"

Post by Karen on Fri 21 Jan 2011 - 20:13

Since the publication of the particulars of the extraordinary case of fraud, where a young man succeeded in imposing upon an old couple and passing himself off as their son, afterwards obtaining a considerable sum of money from them with which he absconded. Mr. Superintendent Arnold of the H Division has received several letters from persons in different parts of the country, complaining of having been swindled by a young man, believed to be the same individual, under somewhat similar circumstances. One of the persons encloses a photograph of the young man, but no good description is given. The police are anxious to obtain further particulars from any other persons who may have been defrauded by any young "Jolly Jack Tar." The address of the old lady who applied to the Magistrate is also wanted.
