Hyman Smith, twenty-eight, tailor, was convicted of stealing a clock and other articles, value 14 pounds, in the dwelling-house of a Mr. Solomon Jacobs, at No. 12, Montague-street, E. Police-constable Plaistow and Sergeant McCarthy, of the H division, went in consequence of information to a bed room in the prosecutor's house. Underneath the bed they found the prisoner, who had in his possession six door-keys, and a skeleton key, together with a small file. He had collected various property, and had tied it up in a bundle ready for removal. - Other convictions were recorded against the prisoner, who was sentenced to eighteen months' hard labour.
