Police Seaside Home 1893

Post by Karen on Tue 28 Dec 2010 - 2:17

HOW TO HELP THE POLICE.

As a practical means of showing their appreciation of the valuable and arduous services rendered by the police during the Jubilee celebrations, the Countess of Chichester appeals to our readers to help in clearing off the liability on the Police Seaside Home at Hove, Brighton. Over 4,000 policemen have been benefited by this institution since it was opened by her ladyship in 1893, and just now about 400 pounds is needed to pay for necessary improvements recently executed.
Subscriptions will be received and gratefully acknowledged by the hon. secretary at the Home.

Question: How could a suspect identification have taken place in 1891 at an institution that yet did not exist? Sounds like more of Anderson's fantasies.

IN SOCIETY.

The Countess of Chichester's appeal on behalf of the Police Seaside Home at Hove has been promptly responded to by "A Friend," who promises 100 pounds on condition that the remaining 300 pounds of the debt (of 400 pounds) be subscribed by Christmas.

It would appear that according to this link, the foundation stone of the Seaside Home was laid on October 29, 1892.

THE POLICE SEASIDE HOME.

A new seaside convalescent home for sick and injured police was opened last week at West Brighton by the Countess of Chichester. The new building was much needed, and an urgent appeal for funds to wipe off the debt of 2,000 pounds is being made by the Committee. Our illustration is from a photograph by Lombardi, Brighton.
